The whole place closed, except for the restrooms and the drive through...
We just look so...suspicious!
We drove to Virginia to bring Samuel back home.
We got to see little Grant, he was so glad his daddy was back home! Sam is back home, safe and sound.
We stayed for half hour or so, and hit the road again, for the almost four hundred miles back home again...no hotel this time, no sightseeing, no wandering around D.C., no Smithsonian, no Arlington. No, just back home.
We stopped at Dunkin for an afternoon caffeine fix, then ate some Wendy's food...a salad for me, a chicken sandwich for Emily, who was driving.
It's weird out there, on the road, these days. There's very little traffic, and masks are required everywhere. Driving by empty malls and stores just seems so apocalyptic. Dystopian. Stephen King-ish.
Sixteen hours for all that driving, now I'm home and tired. And that was my road trip.

WOWOWOW COOL! We had friends who came back from NH (they were there prior to the virus hitting and finally returned here)---anyways---Tom said they were stopped at the border of NY-telling them they had to wear masks and quarantined when they got home...no such thing where you were traveling? (which would be a good thing)

No, we didn't have any trouble at all. My daughter is an NP, has work badges with her, and we were on an important mission. There are things that happen in life that defy both rules and logic. All the laws, mandates, rules, and suggestions can't cover every possibility. My son needed some help, and then needed to get back home. It's not my story to tell, he's an amazing kid, and has good heart and a bright future, but sometimes, well, life doesn't go according to the script. I hope you get outside and get some sunshine today! Have a good, warm, day!
Glad your trip worked out! I'm going to our children's hospital in the city on Thursday with my Sam, and already starting to think through things. I want to visit my parents while we are there. It is a bit risky, but my dad is a grumpy goat about all of this, thinks he already had it in December, and tells us to come on over.😂
Wow, that was a quick trip. I'm glad all went well. Yes, when I've been out and around a busy-ish area that is NOW empty, it reminds me of a Stephen King movie.

Valerie, hope your visit goes well. I get nerve-y enough just bringing the kids to appointments sometimes, and with all of this going on, it's just no fun. I hope your Sam is okay. As far as visiting your parents, only you guys can assess that. It's an upside down world we live in where something like that is such an issue, right? Your poor dad, he probably misses you like crazy. If my parents were still on earth, I'm not sure what I would do either. I wish your dad could get an antibody test and find out for sure.!
Suze, that WAS a quick trip, way way way too quick. Mission accomplished, but jeepers, we felt like criminals, driving down the empty-ish highways, with those STAY AT HOME signs flashing at us. It was rainy off and on through the mountains of Pennsylvania, like a scary movie.
Carol, thank you, and all of you, thank you for your kind words and for understanding. Writing a blog is such a tightrope sometimes, I have to leave things out because so many stories aren't my stories to tell, yet as a mom with so many kids, those stories ARE MY LIFE. Hi Delia! I am back following ur blog again. I got abt 2 yrs behind bc i got busy and stopped reading! But when all this virus stuff started I knew u lived in upstate NY and knew I shd check on u guys. Glad to see u guys are doing pretty well. Your dau who went to NYC is on my prayer list.
It was interesting reading thru the 1st part of this year, with u saying u were going to Mexico first. I was like oh no u can't go! Then u said Hawaii, and i was like mmm i don't think so. So sorry u had to return from CA early.
I live in Central TX and we are fortunate to hv very few cases--only 41, sadly 1 death. Looks like we may start to open back up Friday. Besides my Mom is dying for a haircut! She was supposed to get it cut the day everything got shut down so she is gonna be the first one! Even if its at midnight! HA!

Hi Della 👋 so glad you made it home safe and sound. That was a loooooooog trip!! You got to see that cute little Grant though.....bonus!! It’s amazing how much less traffic there was....makes for a better trip. We notice that around here too. My husband it out there power raking the front grass...........😬..........then we’ll water it and as soon as we’ve don’t that it’s sure to rain!! It is so dry though even after all that snow. That’s all gone now and really we need a couple of days of nice rain to clean it all up. Have a great day and stay well.

A child doesn't stop being your child when they grow up and as a grown up I still so appreciate my parents going the extra mile.

Hi Kathy! I hope you're doing well. The whole travel thing, who would have ever thought? Just flying back from California was unreal. It was announced that our kids' schools were closing, while I was in the Chicago airport. I just wanted to get home by that point. Your mom and her hair cut reminds me of a hilarious video I saw on Facebook, where a lady cut her own hair and did a terrible job, it got more and more funny as she hacked away. :)
Marilyn, it was a very very long day, but sometimes...life doesn't go according to the script, and someone needs rescuing. My son is a very special person, and I am very very thankful for him. He's doing much better now, and I am truly thankful for kind thoughts, words, and prayers. I'm glad you're heading into spring up there. We're getting another sunny day today, I love it.
Mary, do you have a blog? I'd love to read it! And I hope you understand that there are details I must leave out concerning my son. It would all make perfect sense, but alas, it's not my story to tell. God is good though.
Simone, thank you for your goodness. The trip did go well. It was short, to the point, with little contact with the outside world, yet we enjoyed the ride tremendously. We did what we had to do, and I'm so thankful we were able to.
