total ignoramus or lazy dum-dum?

I do not know anything about flowers. In fact, when my late mother-in-law would gesture to her flower bed and say, "What do you think of my  -----s?", I would have no idea WHICH flower I should be commenting on, so I would just nod.  mmm hmmm.  they're all lovely.  When we were kids, we had beautiful rosebushes over on the side of the house next to the garbage cans, I don't recall anyone tending to them, we just picked them when we pleased.  There was a lilac bush, and some hyacinths, which Casey and I liked to eat...the white ones...?

My adult years were rather busy keeping the horde of children alive.

Now, I really like flowers, but I am also still lazy.  I don't want to be bothered doing too much work, I just want to buy the flowers in the disposable pots, and transplant them into my own pots and have pretty flowers on the deck.  I've got three hanging baskets of begonias now, thank you Aldi, $8.99.  I do like begonias, and they're pretty hearty.  I have a mini rosebush growing in my planter box in the yard, and I did trim it this year, and it looks very much alive.  I have a huge chrysanthemum plant that Paul thought was a lavender plant, and put into the flower box a few years ago, it thrives and blooms every fall.  There are Lillies in there too, I thinned them the other day and threw the extras over in the side woods, they can grow and multiply.  The flower box is also being overrun with wild spearmint, which smells lovely and is wonderful in a glass of tea, so I pulled some of that out too.

Here's the thing:  I don't know the difference between weeds, and flowers.  I got an app on my phone which is amazing, you point the camera at a plant, and it tells you what it is!  I am very impressed.  It is not always right though!  It thought it saw a snake the other day, and there was no snake!

This was the pic it captured, of a pot that sat through the winter, (it has a Deptford Pink plant that has survived for years!).  I wanted to know what part was the nice plant and what I should weed out, when the app said this was in the pot:
I do not know what the app camera was seeing, but I backed away from the pot...

Anyway, I didn't see any snakes, but it was freaky.

The Mennonite place in town will have it's greenhouse full of very reasonably priced flowers and plants, I love this time of year.  I have my flower box/trellis thing to assemble, and have to buy some potting soil.  The lilacs are blooming too, we have some in the back yard and some in the front.  I'll have to pick some to enjoy in here, they smell just wonderful.  mmmm.

This fine morning, I puttered out for a second cup of coffee, and decided to descale the water kettle.  So now another jug of vinegar is on my shopping list.  We use town water for the kettle and espresso machine, but it's still hard water, just not as hard as our tap water.  Why did I need to tell you this?  Oh, and I oiled all the cutting boards.  The things you are supposed to do periodically which back in the day, I never found time for!

Ah well...such is my exciting life.  I am very happy though, and I love to putter around, I never ever get bored.  There are so many things I want to do!  Today, we're going to Target to pick up some cleaning products, I splurge on the Mrs. Meyer's and Method, the ones that smell so good.  I'm also getting a two pack of solar hanging lanterns to put on the trellis thing, I like to make the deck super fun and inviting...walking through Target will be painful, but if Charlotte Claire drives home...I'll be okay!

All right, you all have a good day, and enjoy the springiness of spring!

Vinegar is pretty amazing, though, isn't it! I have a gallon of white vinegar with my cleaning supplies. Apple Cider in the cupboard for cooking. I don't see a snake in your pot either, but sure would have backed off, too!! Whew!!

Hi Fella!

I’m a ding bat too for knowing most flowers except for the well known ones. I didn’t see any snake either but 😬😬
