...because even I am getting sick of hearing about my knee surgery. It's tomorrow, the hospital lady will call today and let me know how horrifically early I will actually have to get up and shower. I have to touch base with the PT people, I'm lucky there: it's right in town, five miles away. It's the place that Sonja and Camille went to, so many sessions, so many knee surgeries! The physical therapist, Steve, went to school with Paul. He's a nice guy, and I always thought he should get paid extra for counseling all of his patients...especially the old people. He knows their names and he greets them heartily, he knows if their cows are doing well or if they have a new grand baby.
Last evening Camille helped me put together the over the toilet thingy, and the new table for next to my chair. I opened the wedge pillow I got, and got the walker out. The ice machine is a no-go. A nice guy from the pool lent it to me, Charlie-the-bus-driver. He was also a dairy farmer, and knows everyone in the area. (he knew the last five families that lived in my son Ben's big old farm house, which fascinates me...me being from the suburbs and knowing only the kids on the street, really...) Oh, the ice machine: it's a bit...moldy, from being in the box, not sure when he used it, so I am returning it to him today at the pool. I absolutely do not want to compromise the surgery site, risk infection. I have two ice packs I can alternate using and freezing, that will be fine.
Anyway. After the pool we are going to breakfast, then I think I will try to go to Costco with Sonja and Kathryn. I'd like to stock up on seltzers, maybe get a chicken for tonight's dinner.
Our housewarming party was pretty amazing. The pulled pork was good, Evelyn's Mac and cheese was MMM, Emily's butternut squash soup, MMM, Ben and Ashley brought chips and dips, and tortilla chips and salsa, I brought apples and Jon made chocolate chip cookies (he's really good!), Rosi made apple crisp which went into the oven right as we got there, making the new place smell heavenly. Mariel made chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, and we had lots of good drinks, like pink milk and iced tea, cold brew coffee, and seltzers, Capri Suns for the kids too.
Their new place is wonderful, it's near the lake, just a short walk, you can see the water from the kitchen window. It's in a nice part of the city with big houses with nice yards, and lots of parking. There are so many windows, a window seat in the library room, and French doors out to a big wrap-around porch. It's bright and warm, old but with character, with the staircase and nooks and woodwork, original hardwood flooring...just a nice comfy place.
And, now I have to hurry and get ready for the pool...I am going to miss the pool SO much, it's my happy place...you all have a good day, but ha, I'll probably check in later, because writing calms me down...:)
