I heard Paul telling someone to call 911. I was out on the deck, sitting in the sun, with a few of the kids. Paul was in the house, we had the big door open to let in all that beautiful warm fresh air yesterday. Then he came out with his keys and his wallet....Sonja hit a deer, he said. She's okay. He was going to pick her up. So of course I called her right away, and yes, she was upset. She hit that deer going 55-60 miles per hour, in Paul's truck, she was heading to work at the college. She hit it hard, the airbag deployed, she was shocked and upset and didn't know what to do. She said that deer came running out of nowhere, it probably got spooked as it was enjoying the first snow melt in weeks and weeks, that yummy grass finally exposed.
So she it it hard, was very sore yesterday, but she's okay. That's the important thing. It's such a shocker to have an accident. I called her boss for her and told her what happened, and that Sonja was probably too shaken up to go in.
There was fluid leaking out, and sadly, it might be declared a total wreck. We don't have gap insurance, but we do have regular collision insurance, which means we'll get what book value is. We can NO WAY replace it for what they will give us, if it's totaled.
Poor Paul. Another kid, another car. He took it well, but pray for him, that he continues to take it well. It was a really nice truck with low mileage and 4 wheel drive, and it's almost paid off. We do believe that all things work together for our good, and that God never gives us more than we can handle, and we do have to be tested in these beliefs, right?
I did notice that when Paul left yesterday to go get Sonja, he was very calm. This is how he takes things, he really works with things, not because he is a patient person, but because he works on it! My own father would have been ranting and raving, and we would have all been on edge, so when things happen, I naturally expect the yelling to start, but it doesn't happen with Paul, and I'm still very thankful for that!
I packed up my things for Florida last evening, and brought most of it over to Emily-Abigail-Mariel's house to shove into the one giant checked bag we are taking. We are flying a cheap-0 airline, so we can only bring one personal item, like a backpack. But hey, for a hundred bucks, it's not bad.
Evelyn Joy is such a good daughter, a good sister...she reserved a hotel room for Friday night for her, and Sonja, Charlotte Claire, and Camille...she's 21, and has a car and a job, and thought she would do something fun with the girls. She called a few places and made sure the hot tub and pool would be open, and chose something, they are very excited.
Ah well...Paul is over at the collision place getting his belongings from the truck...it's rather sad. But Sonja is okay, that is the important thing.
We're leaving for the airport in a few hours, I'm bringing my laptop so I'll be blogging, and I'll take lots and lots of pictures. Some of you live in Florida, maybe I'll see you there! I'll be with three gorgeous girls, my three oldest daughters, so if you see us, give us a wave!

Sorry about Paul’s truck, but relieved that your daughter is okay. My mom had the same thing happen to her a few months ago, she was okay but car was a total loss. She finally got a new car a few weeks ago and another car ran into her, so now that’s in the shop. Ah, Life.
Enjoy your trip to Florida! What part are you going to? I’m in the Ft Myers/Naples area. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the weather when you’re here. :)
I'm so sorry to hear but glad Sonja is OK. It could have been so much worse and thank God it wasn't! I can relate in terms of your father. Mine is the same way.
Oh no, glad your daughter is okay, but sorry about the truck!
We had some excitement yesterday- a spark must have blown away from our burn pile, and a whole section of brush on our property caught fire! My oldest son handled it so well, I was proud, he got the hose and had all the children out there with buckets and pans to douse out the flames. We were lucky because the ground itself is wet from all our melted snow, so only the surface brambles went up in flames, and the fire stopped at the grass line. I couldn't do much, as I was recovering from my D+C, but pray my head off inside! But God was with us.

You didn't say where you are going to be in Florida. I am halfway between Tampa and Orlando and I always love meeting blogging pals!
"We do believe that all things work together for our good and that God never gives us more than we can handle, and we do have to be tested in these beliefs, right?" Yes - I believe that too. Amen!!
So sorry for the accident. That’s a terrible thing to have happened. It’s so fast. My husband wrecked his truck a couple of years ago, a month after we paid it off. They totaled it. He talked to the collision guy and he said he would fix it for 1500, so he got the 1200 they gave him for the truck, bought it from the insurance company for $600 paid 1500 and it has worked like a charm for year. It was much cheaper than buying a new used car and he loved his truck.

Yikes, that sounds like a scary accident and I'm sorry about the truck. It probably saved Sonja from more serious harm, though. My one "bad" accident years ago was in an F-150 (a company truck, too) and I think it saved my life. My employer never reproached me about the truck, and they took very good care of me afterward. :)
I hope you have an outstanding weekend! We're enjoying sun and 55 degrees here in Oregon today!

Joy, I'm glad you're okay! Having a bad accident is traumatizing, I think it might make one a more careful driver, but it's so scary. I am having a very nice time with my older girls, we stay up way too late talking and encouraging each other. It's amazing.
Kristi, that is something to think about! And I know we aren't the only ones to go through this, it's like we'll never get ahead, but if we could fix it...hmmm.
Terri, we were in Zephyrhills with my MIL. We tired her out, and are now over in Madeira Beach.
Valerie, oh no!!!! Isn't it amazing though when your kids grow up enough to actually think fast and get things done? You've done a good job! Very sorry about your D&C, it's such a sad, wringing experience. Hugs to you, hope for a quick healing, rest up.
Dawn Marie, oh dear, on the father thing. Mine had a soft heart, but dang he was gruff, I still get all on edge when anything happens. I am the same way by nature, but have fought hard not to react like that, because I know how it affected me, and would rather my kids not suffer like I did. It doesn't go away, the tendency to cringe and duck when something happens...
Marilyn, it's so nice to be in the sunshine and warmth! I wish you were here with us this morning, having coffee outside in the heat....
Thank you all for the kind thoughts concerning Sonja K., or Ginger, as we call her, Miss Ginge. She is a bit bruised and sore, and feels bad about the truck, but I'll pas along the kindnesses from you all...
OH NO!!!! Poor Paul and I am glad your daughter is ok.
P.S still sticking out my tongue over your FL trip, LOL.
